Event Recap: Moving CCSD Forward with Supt. Jara

LVGEA hosts community discussion on education

On Thursday, Jan. 10, the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) and LVGEA 50 board member Glenn Christenson hosted a community discussion on education with Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara. The breakfast event at the Four Seasons Las Vegas brought together 100 community and business leaders for a conversation on ‘Moving CCSD Forward’ and topics from Dr. Jara, including:

  • An update on his listening tour and important areas of focus: equity for students, improving teaching and learning conditions, and building public trust.
  • Goals for the upcoming legislative session and updating the Nevada Funding Formula.
  • Efficiencies found in central office, totaling $3.5 million so far.
  • What can be achieved through community investment and support, such as increasing the graduation rate and ensuring that all students are college and career ready.

Enhanced education and workforce is one of the LVGEA’s public policy guiding principles, created as a reference for policy makers on what matters most to economic development in Greater Las Vegas. Strengthening the relationship between LVGEA and CCSD, Superintendent Jara joined the organization’s board of directors in Aug. 2018.
