LVGEA Releases its Strategic Plan, Announces Investment Campaign

Last week, the LVGEA released its Strategic Plan and announced the creation of the Engage Southern Nevada, a three year effort to raise $7.5M for regional economic development.
The LVGEA Strategic Plan was developed primarily to achieve the goals and objectives set out in the LVGEA’s three guiding documents: the Southern Nevada Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, the LVGEA Marketing Strategy, and the LVGEA Investment Strategy. The plan also informs the funded priorities in the LVGEA budget. The LVGEA Strategic Plan was approved in September of 2013 by the LVGEA Executive Committee.
In order ot meet the goals of the Strategic Plan, the LVGEA needs to raise more money. The Engage Southern Nevada campaign aims to do just that. In the coming weeks, the LVGEA will announce new investor levels and new ways to engage with the organization. LVGEA Partners with Business and Labor to Support Regional Infrastructure Development

A strong economy begins with high quality transportation infrastructure. That’s why, in February, the LVGEA Executive Committee took a bold step and voted to endorse AB413, legislation that would authorize the Clark County Commission to index the local fuel tax to inflation. The LVGEA has never been in the habit of endorsing legislation, much less endorsing a tax increase, but this legislation was different.

Through indexing, our community will invest in connections to the region and ensure its long-term economic health.

On September 3rd, the Clark County Commission voted 6-1 to index the Clark County Fuel Tax to inflation. The extra revenue raised from this ordinance will be used on more than 180 transportation projects and create thousands of jobs. By voting for indexing, our County Commission made it possible to finish Nevada’s portion of I-11 and plan for the Global Business District. Their vote makes it possible to raise the Beltway to freeway standards, complete the Airport Connector, improve transit in the urban core, and build a new freeway exit in Mesquite to better facilitate truck traffic.

Please take a moment to thank the Clark County Commission for their good work on this measure, and thank you for your support on this important issue.

A Message from Tom Skancke, President & CEO of the LVGEA

Over the past 9 months, the LVGEA has experienced a great deal of change. We’ve changed our name, doubled the size of our staff, launched a new website, and worked with our community partners to draft an all new Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).

In February, we moved from our old offices at the Marnell Corporate Center to our new location at the Rob Roy inNEVation Center. Through a very generous contribution from Switch, we are receiving this space free of charge; unfortunately, we are still on the hook for our old office space.

For those not familiar with the Marnell Corporate Center, it is Class-A office space in a great location, just off Sunset Road near the I-215 Airport Connector and I-15.  Our old 3,500 square foot office would be perfect for many different types of business, and we would be happy to work with anyone who is interested in the space.  Should you know of any individual or company interested in our old office space, please have them contact Carol Cooper at 702.791.0000.
