First, it helps to know that the Las Vegas Strip isn’t the same thing as Downtown Las Vegas. While they are both defined by location on Las Vegas Boulevard, generally, Sahara Boulevard is the boundary. Anything north of Sahara is Downtown, and south of Sahara to Mandalay Bay is the Strip.

No, Las Vegas is not tax-free for retail shopping. Nevada has a state sales tax of 6.85%, and in Clark County (which includes Las Vegas), the total sales tax is 8.375%. In Nevada, most groceries, prescription medications, and medical equipment are tax-free, while prepared foods, alcohol, and retail goods are subject to sales tax. However, if you live in Nevada, you won’t have to pay a state income tax.
The outlet malls around Las Vegas offer some of the best deals. If you’re after thrift deals, Savers, Goodwill, and Buffalo Exchange have great secondhand finds at bargain prices. Plus, with an extended period of summer weather in Southern Nevada, you’ll get more value out of the wardrobe when you purchase new items.
The pawn shop made famous on Pawn Stars is Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. The address is 713 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89101. It will take about 15 minutes to walk from the Golden Nugget to the pawn shop. The store is open daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If there’s a line outside, you’ll have to wait to be able to walk through the store, but if you’re there to pawn something, you get to skip the line.
