The LVGEA Annual Awards Dinner took place on Sept. 20. The event honored LVCVA CEO Steve Hill and companies that epitimized LVGEA’s core values: innovation, leadership, partnership and jobs. LVGEA and UNLV are teaming up for Outlook ’19 on Nov. 29 to bring together speakers and provide in-depth analysis of what to expect heading into 2019 on the local, national, and global levels.
The biggest night in economic development took place on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Aria Resort & Casino as more than 650 business and community leaders came together for the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance’s (LVGEA) 2018 Annual Awards Dinner. The event reflected on the year’s accomplishments and recognized those who made an impact in economic development through the LVGEA’s core values: leadership, innovation, partnership and jobs. With the assistance of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA), three companies that plan to relocate or expand in Greater Las Vegas were approved for state incentives today by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) board of directors. These companies include Amami Systems/HashRabbit, Fresenius Kabi and Zuffa/UFC. In total, these will bring 65 new jobs to the region over the next five years. Since Jan., the LVGEA has assisted in the expansion and relocation of 27 companies, projecting a total of more than 3,400 jobs over the next five years. Cox Communications has announced a renewal of its Pinnacle Level investment in the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA). The renewal consists of a three-year $500,000 commitment to support the LVGEA and its regional economic growth and diversification strategies. Cox has been a Pinnacle Investor in the LVGEA since 2015 and will continue supporting the public-private partnership through its 2021 membership year. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) recently announced the honoree of its Leadership Award: Steve Hill. Nominated by LVGEA investors and selected by our Board of Directors, this award recognizes a business or community leader whose vision, influence and inclusiveness have positively impacted the economy of Southern Nevada. During the first half of 2018, Southern Nevada continued to report new highs in terms of job counts. June marked the 88th consecutive month of positive year-over-year job growth in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, with employment reaching 1,002,900. The area added 28,800 jobs over the past year, resulting in a job growth rate of 3.0 percent, nearly double the national average. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) recently announced the approval of Clark County School District’s (CCSD) new superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara to its board of directors. Dr. Jara, appointed by the CCSD Board of School Trustees in June, will take over previous superintendent Pat Skorkowsky’s seat on the LVGEA 50 board. “I am honored to serve on LVGEA’s Board of Directors and ready to work with the business community to make CCSD #1 For Kids,” said Superintendent Jara. “There are so many wonderful things happening in the Clark County School District and with the help of community and business partners, along with CCSD’s talented and passionate educators, we will accelerate the opportunities to ensure every child has access to a rich and rigorous learning environment.” There is no doubt that education and economic development go hand-in-hand. We know that efforts to build a stronger workforce begin with K-12 education, and earlier this year, we were proud to announce the addition of the Clark County School District to our board of directors, also known as the LVGEA 50. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) released its new Industry Report on Manufacturing, providing an overview of the current state of the Greater Las Vegas region’s manufacturing industry as well as findings and recommendations that can help to continue bolstering the industry’s short- and long-term success. With the assistance of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA), G4 Works, LLC (a subsidiary of Allegiant Air) and Bigelow Aerospace were approved for state aviation incentives today by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) board of directors. “Aviation and aerospace are growing sectors in the region that are helping to strengthen our diversifying economy,” said LVGEA Chief Operating Officer Jared Smith. “We have a great business environment for aviation and aerospace, and companies like Allegiant, Bigelow Aerospace and others that already exist in Nevada are making greater investments because they see the By Bailey Schulz | Las Vegas Review-Journal Kylie Rowe, vice president of economic development for the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, said the company would make a captial investment of more than $7.9 million over the next year, with 98.6 percent of revenue coming from outside of Nevada. And this move could help bring in more film companies, Rowe said. It’s a “positive message to prospective companies that are looking to come here,” she said. “they know that there’s existing talent, that they can find talent” in Nevada. By David Randall | Nasdaq Las Vegas is a young city. It was incorporated just over 100 years ago. More to the point, Las Vegas is a consciously and continuously young city… Las Vegas – and Nevada as a whole – is attracting the sort of new residents growing companies thirst for: young ones. “Las Vegas, as a region, is one of the few in the country that’s getting younger. Millennials are moving here in droves, and that millennial spirit is infectious in the community,” gushes Smith of the LVGEA. By David Randall | Nasdaq Already, there are signs that the economy is shifting. Around 100,000 jobs are in health and education-related fields, an increase of more than 50 percent from 10 years ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. At the same time, construction employment is down 38 percent at about 65,000. Yet tourism and hospitality, with its thousands of low-paying, entry-level jobs, still accounts for nearly a third of the region’s workforce, three times the national average. Casinos MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment, Wynn Resorts, and Las Vegas Sands Corp together employ over 102,400 in the area, according to data from the Las Vegas Global Economic By Nevada Business Magazine Workforce Connections (WC), Southern Nevada’s Local Workforce Development Board, announces seven new board members including Jared Smith from the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance. By Jennifer Rachel Baumer | Nevada Business Magazine By working as a region toward a smart system, RTC and collaborative partners could decide on the kind of data governance it should have, the type of shared platforms, shared initiatives and data collection, rather than each agency collecting its own data and using it in a proprietary way. The next step is to determine what governance would look like. To figure that out, for the last year, a group including all jurisdictions and Southern Nevada Water Authority, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, fire and police and NDOT have convened to have that exact conversation.
