Powering the Silver State with reliable, affordable energy key to continued economic growth

WRITTEN AND SUBMITTED BY TONY SANCHEZ, NV ENERGY EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS

NV Energy is no stranger to long-term planning. For more than 150 years, we’ve grown and evolved with the Silver State, always planning to meet current needs and keep up with projections.

The Silver State – and Las Vegas in particular – remains one of the fastest growing states in the country, and we are proud to play our part in ensuring we can meet the energy needs of our existing customers, as well as new customers looking to call Nevada home.

And we do this through partnership. Our business and economic development teams work hand-in-hand with our municipal partners to review high-growth and in-demand areas. We do all we can to help support existing demand while strategically planning for additional growth.

Our economic development experts work strategically with businesses, site selectors, real estate brokers/developers and economic development agencies to facilitate business location and expansion within Nevada. Our team assists companies in a variety of ways, including the pricing and calculation of utility rates, joining on site visits to help find the best location and providing information on incentives, transportation, labor and more.

Our long history with economic development in Nevada – coupled with our continued renewable energy growth – also allows us to be creative in our strategies to meet the needs of new and innovative customers. We have creative renewable energy supply options to serve any new businesses and experts at the ready to work with new companies to ensure we meet your unique needs.

Our employees look months and years ahead at energy usage trends and watch on a second-by-second basis to ensure we have the power that is essential to our customers.

NV Energy ranks in the top 25 percent of all utilities, according to Edison Electric Institute’s “System Average Interruption Frequency Index” and the “System Average Interruption Duration Index” comparisons.

That’s in no small part because of the highly skilled and safe work in the field by the men and women who respond to power outages and perform routine maintenance to ensure our generating stations are running in top condition.

NV Energy has a number of projects in the works to ensure we are going to continue to meet our energy needs.

Greenlink Nevada, a renewable energy and infrastructure initiative, will improve NV Energy’s overall system reliability by providing a second critical state-wide transmission connection. Greenlink is one of many renewable energy projects in our portfolio to keep power flowing and to reach our renewable portfolio standard goals.

This project will allow NV Energy to meet future energy demands, leading to economic growth and job stability once complete. We want businesses and residents interested in moving to our State to know that we are working around the clock to offer affordable clean energy.

In fact, for the last 13 consecutive years, NV Energy has exceeded the state’s renewable energy requirement, and we’re well on our way to meeting the 50 percent standard by 2030. The company’s current portfolio consists of 53 large-scale geothermal, solar, solar plus storage, hydro, wind, biomass and supported private solar projects in service and under development.
